More airlines flying to Medellin directly! I was able to confirm with several sources that Spirit Airlines will fly directly from Fort Lauderdale in South Florida to Medellin. This flight will be direct competition to the direct flights from Miami offered by Avianca and American Airlines. Spirit is an Ultra-Low-Cost-Carrier. They offer breakneck pricing for tickets, but charge for every service (e.g. check-in luggage) separately. In my opinion, their prices will put pressure on ticket prices from Avianca and AA for their Miami-MDE flight. Good! We like competition! I wasn't able to confirm from when on Spirit will offer direct service to Medellin. As soon as I find out, I'll let you know.
