Yesterday we started our English classes for our ladies! The level of interest was amazing! One girl even brought her mom and her little sister! The class lasts 2 hours and will be held once a week. It's free for the ladies and yes, I'm the professor! I've always dreamt about teaching a whole class of gorgeous women.

The class is very interactive, is strictly conversational and they ALL get to talk! They all managed to have a small conversation in English yesterday. You should have seen the passion and eagerness to learn English!

English is a strange phenomenon in Colombia: VERY few people speak English here! You might think Colombians are not interested in learning English, but that's not the case: They're VERY interested! They all learn English at school or in university. So how come they don't speak? Well, my assessment is that the classes they normally have access to don't work. They focus a lot on words and grammar, they do a lot of reading and written exercises, but they don't get to speak. Also, the pronunciation of most English teachers here has to be terrible! Most Paisas never get over the fact that English is pronounced differently than Spanish.

Well, my class is very different! We talk from beginning on. I have one-on-one conversations with every student and we have many exercises during the class where they get to talk among themselves. We also do only minimal grammar. We'll only cover what they need to communicate with foreigners in English without making a complete fool out of themselves. And it's working great! Everybody had a lot of fun and they learned more English than ever in their lives! To be continued....
